About the Book:
"Immigrants Land" is based on the real lives of three Tangeman brothers, Carl, Wilhelm and George, along with their wives, Anna Barbara and Margaretha Schiedt and Elizabeth Heimers, respectively.
In the latter 19th century, tensions that mounted between abolitionists and states rights advocates, the Civil War and rapid technological changes in agriculture shaped these families. They became uncommonly interdependent family farmers, a tradition that continues to the present. As described by Bethany Martin, Faith and Life Bookstore Manager, in her review, “Immigrants Land gives a snapshot of the lives of the Tangeman & Schiedt families after they traveled to America in 1848 through 1880. This glimpse into the daily lives of German immigrants during this time is an important look back in history and a testament to the strength and courage of these families. Clay does a wonderful job of taking historical people and turning them into living, breathing characters on the page. We follow along as they make life-changing decisions and daily choices like what to plant in the garden. What a great way to learn about those who have gone before and paved the way for future generations.”
