Newton Public Library invites local readers to explore the breadth and depth of its collection via the 2021 Reading Challenge!

Library staff have chosen reading prompts for each month, starting with the January prompt, “Read a YA (Young Adult) Novel.” NPL will release videos and blog posts each month, featuring some relevant staff picks and recommendations. We’ll highlight one prompt per month, but they can be completed in any order.

Readers who complete all 12 prompts can request a certificate of completion at the end of the year.

Without further ado, here are the prompts:

January: “Remember When.” Read a YA (Young Adult) novel.

February: “Love is in the Air.” Read a romance novel.

March: “Beam Me Up!” Read a science fiction (or science fact) book.

April: “A Day in the Life.” Read a biography or memoir.

May: “On the Road Again.” Read a road trip narrative.

June: “You’re Killing Me, Smalls.” Read a book that clocks in under 200 pages.

July: “Celebrate the USA.” Read a book with a red, white or blue cover.

August: “It’s All About Me.” Read a book by an author whose last name starts with the first letter of your first name.

September: “Make This One Count.” Read a book with a number in the title.

October: “Just Picture It.” Read a graphic novel or illustrated book.

November: “All Aboard.” Read a book from the “train side” of the Youth Services level – a middle-grade children’s fiction or nonfiction book.

December: “Librarian Knows Best.” Ask a staff person for a suggestion.
