“CSI” was one of the most popular TV franchises in history, with nearly 800 episodes produced across four different series. The similar “NCIS” franchise added another 770 episodes of television, proving that the public can’t get enough of detectives, crime scenes and forensic science.

But how does the Hollywood version of criminal investigation compare with the real thing?

Newton Police Detective Craig Douglass will talk about his real-life work at “CSI: Newton,” a teen program scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Newton Public Library.

Douglass will talk about his experiences, show some of the actual tools he uses on the job, and answer questions.

“CSI: Newton” will also feature role-playing activities that will engage teens’ problem-solving skills and get them thinking like investigators. Teens will interview witnesses, inspect a simulated crime scene and check for fingerprints.
